Phyllis A Ulmer

Phyllis A. Ulmer passed peacefully in the early hours of January 22, 2021. It’s in the promise of her favorite hymn “How Great Thou Art,” that we know, Phyllis, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend is joyfully and humbly home with Jesus and her husband Mick. She was happiest when family or friends were gathered around her table or when she was serving those as a lab technician at Wells Community Hospital. Born in Wells County in 1937, she was the eighth of 10 Mounsey siblings. On June 1, 1958, she married William Michael “Mick” Ulmer and they were blessed with 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was called at an early age to serve others in the medical field, and she fulfilled that call as a lab technician for 39 years. She was a loving mother who supported her children as a Mom and a friend when needed; and later, loved the spouses they chose as if they were her own. She joyfully retired in 2002 and put her full energies into serving her family and to being one of the greatest Grandmas of all time. Phyllis enjoyed cooking meals for those she loved, walks with her family, spending time with her siblings, playing card games, going to Bingo, reading, going shopping, supporting the Indiana Hoosiers, sitting outside in the sun on warm days, playing and laughing with her great-grandchildren, singing hymns from the back pew at Calvary Lutheran Church, going to lunch or club with friends or former classmates, and she genuinely strived to make others feel important. Hers, was a life well-lived, and her family is a testament to her hard work and faithful dedication to loving others well. Phyllis is survived by her children Gary (Pam) Ulmer of Covington, Georgia; W. Kent (Tracey) Ulmer of Bluffton; Lisa (Tim) Eichler of Ossian; grandchildren, Ashley Ulmer, Tara (Geoff) Cocanower, Trisha (Landon) Stoller, W. Tyler (Haley) Ulmer, Jason (Jena) Eichler, Alex (Cassi) Eichler, and Trevor Eichler; and great-grandchildren Kambree Stoller, Marshall Stoller, and Otto Eichler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Michael 'Mick' Ulmer; parents, Victor and Grace Mounsey; brother Max Mounsey; and sisters Mona Jean Highlen and Vera Scott. Visitation will be on Saturday, (Feb. 6, 2021) from 1 pm to 4 pm at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 P.M. on Saturday (Feb. 6, 2021) at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton with Pastor T. J. Lynch officiating. Friends wishing to watch Phyllis’ service can do so from the safety of their home, utilizing Calvary Lutheran Church’s Facebook page. The safety of the family and all visitors is our utmost priority. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you practice social distancing. Masks are required for visitation and for Phyllis’s service. We appreciate your cooperation and patience. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or Heart to Heart Hospice.
