Mary Eileen "Mate" Betz

Mary Eileen “Mate” Betz, 93 of Bluffton passed away at 2:08 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Signature Health Care in Bluffton. Eileen was born on January 27, 1921 in Rockford, Ohio to Cornelius & Mary Ellen (Butler) McGough. On February 21, 1942 in Bluffton Eileen and Robert L. Betz were married. She worked in Bluffton at Kitco, Progressive Five and Dime Store, and managed the Hallmark Store, along with working at the Wells County Council on Aging and Wells County Public Library. She was a longtime member of Park United Brethren Church in Bluffton and was active in the Wells Community Health Services Auxiliary, working with the Wells Community Hospital Gift Shop and Bargain Hut. Survivors include a daughter Diane (Larry) Owen of Bluffton and a son-in-law Rod Reinhard of Bluffton along with eight grandchildren; Dawn (Philip) Moser, Douglas (Angie) Betz, Sarah Owen, Julie ( Duane) Modlin, Mark (Rachel) Owen, Julie (Bryan) Drummond, Danielle (Brent) Archbold and Nathanael Reinhard. Along with 11 great-grandchildren: William Moser, Storm Betz, Brian Gifford, Sophie & Emma Modlin, Judah Owen, Rebekah, Abigail and Elizabeth Drummond, and E.J., Corbin and Connor Archbold along with great-great-grandchildren Parker Betz and Kayden Gifford. Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Robert L. Betz, Jr., and a daughter, Deborah J. Reinhard, and siblings: Amelia Minx-Shoemaker, Mildred Baumgardner-Reinhard, Lela Keller-Ludy, Dorothy Kaylor, Lloyd McGough, Vera Betters along with two infant siblings. A Service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Pastor John Cole and Rev. Duane Modlin will officiate. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 23 at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service on Monday. Memorials may be made to the Park United Brethren Church or to the Wells Community Health Services Auxiliary through the funeral home.
