Kristina Kaye Sellers

Kristina Kaye (Smuck) Sellers passed away Friday, Oct. 21 in her home in Norwalk, OH. She was born Sept. 27, 1967 in Bluffton, IN and grew up in the Van Buren area, graduating from Eastbrook High School in 1986. Kristi is survived by her husband, David Sellers, and children Cardin, Reece, and Casteel. Also surviving are her mother, Sonja (Cardin) Buckler; father, W. Harold Smuck and bonus-mom, Ronda (Winger); brother, Dr. Matthew Smuck and his wife, Dr. Kamala Rodrigues, and children, Nayan and Asher; sister, Kari (Smuck) Nelson and her husband, Bret; father-in-law, Fred Sellers; brother-in-law, Doug Sellers and his wife, Lisa, and son, Cole. Kristi was preceded in death by her grandparents, Boyd and Polly Cardin and Franklin and Marie Smuck; her bonus-dad, Ken Buckler; and her mother-in-law, Evelyn Sellers. Kristi lived her life with exuberant joy and service to others. In eighth grade, she gave her heart to Jesus at church camp. She then surprised her parents by raising enough money for a mission trip to Haiti which began a life of serving others through Jesus. In 1991, Kristi married her ever-lovin' David Sellers. After graduating from IU nursing school with a BSN, she worked in pediatric units for most of her career. She also ran pediatric clinics in South Bend for patients with cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and asthma-related illnesses. In 1997, much to her surprise, Kristi became a mom. Her love for her children soon became another passion and purpose in life. She loved her family fiercely, almost as much as her Savior. If you met Kristi, you know her joy was in Jesus, His love for others became her own. In 2007 she followed her husband into full-time Christian Camp Ministry. For the last ten years, she has served as the Health Officer and Food Service Director at Camp Patmos on Kelleys Island in Ohio. In 2010, breast cancer became part of Kristi's journey. She used this diagnosis as a platform to give praise and glory to God every step of the way. Philippians 1:21 became her daily meditation. "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." She lived her life with full faith in Jesus and became His instrument. In September 2022, her health rapidly declined, and God began to whisper to her the other side of that verse, "to die is gain" and prepared her to come home to heaven. On Oct. 21, early in the morning, Kristi peacefully went to meet her Savior with her husband and family by her side. Visitation will be Nov. 12 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Substance Church, 101 W. South St., Ashland, OH. A Celebration of Life service will follow at noon. On Sunday, Nov. 13, a graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm at Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton, Indiana.
