Opal June Gilbert

Opal June Gilbert, 96, of Uniondale and Bluffton passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Christian Care Retirement Community. Mrs. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Wells County, IN having been born in Ossian, IN on September 10, 1919 to Homer and Hazel Archbold. She graduated from Ossian High School and married Jerrold M. Gilbert in 1939. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Uniondale United Methodist Church and Waynedale Eastern Star. Mrs. Gilbert worked for and retired from Square D in Huntington, Indiana. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Wayne) Settlemeyer of Wildwood, MO and a son Marty (Bobbie) Gilbert of Angola, Indiana. Mrs. Gilbert is also survived by grandchildren: Krista Dudash, Kelly (John) Eden, Shari Settlemeyer, Chad (Chris) Gilbert, Cari (Al) Martinez, Chet (Tess) Gilbert, Case (Brecken) Gilbert and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven siblings. A service to celebrate Opal’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Uniondale United Methodist Church. Pastor Troy Drayer will officiate. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the service and at the conclusion of the service on Saturday. Burial will take place at a later date at Horeb Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Uniondale United Methodist Church or to the American Heart Association.
