Eugene E. Werling, 72, of Bluffton passed away at 8:13 a.m. on Tuesday, January 03, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne He was born on September 9, 1944 in Fort Wayne to Edmund C. & Leona (Scheumann) Werling. He graduated from Ossian High School in 1962. He retired from Almco Steel in Bluffton in 2011, where he worked in quality control. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian. On November 29, 2002, Eugene and Marsha C. (Souers) Werling were married. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2012. Survivors include step-son Nathan D. (wife Amanda) Helms along with their 3 children Hannah, Riley and Avery Helms of Calera, Alabama. He is also survived by siblings: Judith (Jerry) Lockwood of Ossian, Mary (Dale) Gallmeyer of Ossian, Kenneth Werling of Uniondale and Bruce (Kim) Werling of Ossian, along with his mother-in-law Velma Souers of Warren. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (January 7, 2017) at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian, with calling for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Randy Wurschmidt will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday (January 6, 2017) at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Memorials may be made to the church or the United Way of Wells County.
