Mildred L. Lindsey

Mildred L. Lindsey, 98, of Bluffton passed away at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 at Swiss Village in Berne. Mildred, who was known as “Millie” in her later years, was born on January 29, 1916 in Adams County to Curtis and Flossie (Dunwiddie) Dukes. After her parents’ death, she was adopted at the age of six by LeRoy and Jennie (French) Jacobs. She married Harold H. Meschberger on February 3, 1940. He died in April of 1949 after a long illness. Then in 1952 she married Roger L. Lindsey, who preceded her in death on March 12, 1998, after a brief illness. Millie graduated from Bluffton High School in 1934. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, where she was active for many years in the Ladies Mission Circle. Millie was a 50-year member of the Crescent Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as secretary for 15 years and was a past Worthy Matron. She was also a 50-year member of the Paradise Rebekah Lodge, holding various offices during that time. She enjoyed playing both the piano and organ, sewing, reading and games. Millie is survived by a daughter, Janet Meschberger (Jeff) Egolf of Hendersonville, North Carolina; two sons, Theron C. (Sally Chenoweth) Lindsey of Noblesville, and Keith A. (Paulette Hendrickson) Lindsey of Bluffton; a daughter-in-law, Abby Meschberger of Great Falls, Montana; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Justine (Dukes Burke) (Earle) Knettle and Marjorie (Dukes Kirkwood) (Joe) Hiday, and by two children, daughter Mary Lou Meschberger, who died at birth, and a son, Ronald Eugene Meschberger, who died February 4, 2001. Calling at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service at 8 p.m. Funeral services at the funeral home will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 with one hour of calling prior. Pastor Larry Sprinkle will officiate and burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery Preferred memorials are to the First Church of Christ.
