Dale D. Thompson

Dale D. Thompson, 84 of rural Warren passed away at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 06, 2011 at his residence. Dale was born on February 16, 1927 in Grant County, Indiana to Harvey O. & Goldie (Buroker) Thompson. He attended Marion High School. It was during grade school that he sat behind Lillian R. (Thomas) Thompson. This friendship grew into them gathering on December 14, 1946 in Marion to become husband and wife. They have shared the last 64 + years together. He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lake Champlain. Dale worked at Paranite Wire Factory in Marion for 10 years, and retired from Anaconda Wire & Cable (Cablec Co.) in 1989 after 25 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed bowling on the bowling league in Huntington, was a avid hunter and loved spending time outdoors. He has been an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Bluffton since 1995. Survivors include his wife Lillian of Warren and children; Dave M. (wife Lavina) Thompson of Foley, AL., Diana E. (husband Stephen) Hazelet of Markle, IN., Linda L. (husband Jim) Landis of Hartford City, IN., Wayne A. (wife Grace) Thompson of Port Vue, PA.. along with 7 grandchildren; Mark & Brian Thompson, Jeremy Beeks, Highley Devine, Kimberly Montgomery, Jason Thompson and Cari Fekete, along with 12 great grandchildren. Dale is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Velma Lucy, Ralph Thompson and Eileen Rupley. Friends are invited to visit with the Thompson family from 6 to 8 on Friday at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Funeral Services will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the First Church of the Nazarene, with calling for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tim Sheets will officiate. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory at Marion with Military Honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #111 Honor Guard. In Lieu of flowers, Dale preferred that memorials may be made to: Family Hospice and Palliative Care, First Church of the Nazarene or to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana through the funeral home.
