Carol Jean Neff

Carol Jean Neff, age 87, of Bluffton, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Carol Jean was born on June 17, 1930, in Bluffton, to Carroll and Virginia (Seabold) Costello. She was a 1948 graduate of Bluffton High School. On February 2, 1952, Carol Jean married Harold E. Neff, in Bluffton. They shared 37 years of marriage before he preceded her death on December 18, 1989. Carol Jean's employment career including working at Dr. William Gitlin's medical office, Joan's Clothing store in downtown Bluffton, worked as a local seamstress out of her home and the Bluffton (Central) Middle School. She was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church (First United Church of Christ), in Bluffton along with being a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority. Carol Jean was an avid supporter of the Wells County Democratic Party. Her hobbies included reading, playing cards, and swimming. Survivors include her children Cindy (Neff) Mullins, of Ossian, Victoria (Neff) Knowles of Indianapolis, and Mark (Donna) Neff, of Oswego, Illinois. She enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren Kain Knowles, of Chicago, Tana (Knowles) King, of Rocky River, Ohio, Nathan Mullins, of Cincinnati Ohio, Samantha (Knowles) Mann, of Greenwood, Indiana, and Sarah Neff, of Oswego, Illinois, as well as her ten great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Jim Costello, of Loudon, Tennessee and a sister Nancy Hiester, of Bluffton. She is also preceded in death by her brother Phil Costello. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 - 9 pm at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton and for 1 hour prior to the service. A Service to Celebrate Carol Jean’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday (September 16, 2017) at the funeral home with Ted Ellis and Pastor John-Thomas Roseberry officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery located in Bluffton. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Wells County Public Library or Bluffton Regional Continuing Care Unit.
