Obituary:
Pauleta F. “Polly” Cardin 90 of Bluffton went home to be with her Lord at 9:03 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Her deepest joy was serving her Savior and her family. Polly was a painter, writer, and published poet. Her love language was cooking and baking. Polly was born on September 4, 1919 in Knoxville, TN. Ollie H. & Adeline (Casteel) Torbett were her parents. She graduated from Madisonville High School in Madisonville, TN She was married to the love of her life, Boyd R. Cardin for 68 years, from 1936 until his death in 2004. She worked as a telephone operator at Southern Bell Telephone Company in Sweetwater and Maryville, TN, and Tennessee Eastman in Oakridge, TN. After moving to Indiana, she and her husband operated Cardin's Home Store in Liberty Center. Polly retired in 1984 as an assistant manager for the J.C. Penny Co in Bluffton after 24 years of service. She was a devoted member of the Liberty Center Baptist Church, where she was active in the A.B.W. She was also a member of the P.B.S. Club and past member of the Liberty Center Home Economics Club. Polly is survived by her loving family; Mrs. Richard “Carolyn A.” Stinson of Bluffton, Mrs. Ken “Sonja K.” Buckler of Middlebury, IN and Mr. Brent R. (wife Jackie) Cardin of Tipton, IN. along with 12 grandchildren; Keith Stinson of Bluffton, Chad Cardin of New York City, NY, Matthew Smuck of Menlo Park, Ca, Kimberly Leas of Bluffton, Kristina Sellers of Lake Ann, MI, Kari Nelson of Chandler, NC, Jennifer Cardin of Ft. Wayne, Michelle Levell of Tipton, IN, Benjamin Cardin of Las Vegas, NV, Karl Buckler of Ft. Wayne and Daniel Buckler of Lafayette, along with 17 Great-Grandchildren and a Great-Great-Grandchild. She is also survived by siblings; Ruel B. Torbett of Dallas, GA, Reece R. Torbett of Englewood, TN, Thelma Cooley of Akron, OH and Zeola Massengale of Murfreesboro, TN along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and a grandson Rod Stinson. Friends are invited to visit with Mrs. Cardin’s family from 1 to 8 on Sunday at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Liberty Center Baptist Church with calling one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Dan Sommer will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton. Memorials may be made in Polly’s memory to the Liberty Center Baptist Church.
