Obituary:
Clarabelle Thompson, 93 of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and formerly a 51 year resident of Bluffton, IN, passed away at 2:57 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Hilton Head Hospital. She was born November 27, 1916 in Huntington, Indiana to George E. & Edith (Mow) Chenoweth. Married to David Thompson on June 17, 1939 in Fort Wayne, IN; they were together for 45 years prior to his death on October 31, 1984. Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Fort Wayne Southside High school and furthered her education at Indiana University with a degree in education. She taught for over 20 years in the Bluffton (Indiana) Harrison School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and an Associate member of Tri Kappa Beta in Bluffton and a member of the St. Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church on Hilton Head. Survivors include two daughters; Judy Cotton of Bluffton, Indiana and Mary Jo, Mrs. Don Carlson of Hilton Head, SC, along with her sister Jane Goehring of Atlanta, Georgia. She had 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Bailey and 2 sisters. Memorial services will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2010 in Bluffton, Indiana and on Saturday, July 24 at 4 p.m. at the Seabrook on Hilton Head Island, SC. Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton, Indiana. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Thompson’s memory to the Seabrook Foundation Fund, 300 Woodhaven, Hilton Head, SC, 29928.
