Obituary:
Orville G. Mahnensmith 86 of Bluffton passed away at 6 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his residence. He was born on August 2, 1923 in Preble, Indiana to Marshall & Rose (Kreigh) Mahnensmith. Orville graduated in 1941 from Ossian High School, where he was very active in basketball and other sports. He obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tri-State College in 1943. He served his country in the United States Navy as an Engineering Officer in the South Pacific. After the service, he worked at Bowser, and Ossian Engineering. Orville retired from Tuthill Pump Company in 1985 where he served as a salesman and President. On March 4, 1944 Orville and Marcille (Hedges) were married at the Ossian United Methodist Church. They have shared the last 66 years together, she survives in Bluffton. Other survivors include 3 children; Ted (Jerri) Mahnensmith of Syracuse, IN Carole (Larry) Prible of Carmel, IN and Rex (Pat) Mahnensmith of Hamden, CT. along with 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Orville loved his wife and family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He attended as many of their activities as possible and didn’t miss any of Jared’s (a grandson) games at Wawasee. He loved golf, IU basketball and supporting Bluffton High School athletics. He was a member of the American Legion Post #111 of Bluffton, Bluffton Masonic Lodge, Kehoe Park Board Member, past president of the Parlor City Country Club and attended First Baptist Church in Bluffton. Friends are invited to visit with Orville’s family from 2 to 8 on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 in the funeral home with Pastor Bud Abrams and Rev. Lon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton with military graveside service by the American Legion Post #111 of Bluffton and the United States Navy Honor Guard.
