Harry Sam Houdyshell, 62, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Bluffton, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Veterans’ Hospital in Marion.
Mr. Houdyshell was born in Bluffton on Feb. 9, 1948, to Richard L. Houdyshell I and Lanta Alice (Gehrett) Kreig.
He attended Bluffton High School, then earned his G.E.D. while serving in the military. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart and was a disabled American veteran. He served as the Wells County Veterans’ Service Officer for several years. he resided in Bluffton until he moved to Fort Wayne 25 years ago. He is a member of Waynedale American Legion Post and a life member of the Waynedale V.F.W. Post.
Surviving relatives include his mother; two sons, Troy and Chad Houdyshell, both of Michigan; one brother, Richard L. (Diana) Houdyshell II of Fort Wayne; one sister, Connie Sue (Bob) Medsker of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Houdyshell was preceded in death by his father, on March 26, 1999; and two brothers, Patrick Houdyshell in 1991, and Martin D “Marty” Houdyshell in 2010.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the funeral home. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery, in Bluffton.
