Obituary:
Edwin D. Elzey, 82 of Tocsin, passed away at 7:59 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Elzey was born on January 6, 1928 in Wells County, Indiana to Jesse & Ethel (Hite) Elzey. He attended Lancaster and Bluffton Schools. In 1946 he enlisted and served his country in the United States Navy until he was discharged in 1947. On November 20, 1953 in Bluffton he married Betty L. (Brennan) Elzey, they have been married for the last 56 years. Mr. Elzey worked at International Harvester until 1954. He retired as a welder from Midwest Aggregate in Waynedale after 35 years of service. He worked part-time after retirement as a security guard at Lincoln Foods for several years. Survivors include his wife Betty of Tocsin, along with two daughters Rebecca Sue (husband John) Bertsch of Fort Wayne and Lynne (husband Jim) Hawkins of Sugarland, Texas, along with 2 granddaughters, Whitney Nicole Hawkins and Morgan Danielle Hawkins both of Sugarland, Texas, and a sister Dorothy Hedrick of Nashville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Ervin and Ernest Elzey. Friends are invited to visit with the Elzey family from 2 to 8 on Tuesday at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Street officiating. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery in Ossian with military rites by the American Legion Post # 111 of Bluffton and the United States Navy Honor Guard.
