Obituary:
Elizabeth Louise Captain (nee Mercker), 91, died May 14, 2010 at her family home in Town & Country ( St. Louis, MO) surrounded by family and friends. Elizabeth married Ralph M. Captain in 1942. She was in the Red Cross; he was in the Armed Forces. Following WWII they moved to the St. Louis area where they spent their remain- ing years. Elizabeth was an elementary school teacher in the Ladue District; Ralph was Principal of De Mun School in Clayton. Following his death in 1973, the Clayton School District officially changed the name of the school to the Ralph M. Captain Elementary School in his honor. Elizabeth was a person of varied interests. She was a pilot, an equestrian, a golfer, a gardener, a volunteer at numerous charities, and a life long lover of animals. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and her eldest child Carolyn Elizabeth Captain Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine A. Captain, two grandchildren, Linda and David, and three great grandchildren. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. May 22, 2010, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. A Graveside service will follow visitation at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Pastor Ryan Dalrymple will officiate.
