| Bessie M. Nicholson, 91, of Bluffton died at 7:45 a.m., Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Bessie was a 38 year employee of General Electric Company of Fort Wayne. Prior to going to work at General Electric, She owned and operated her own beauty shop and in her early years, Bessie worked at the Glove Factory and the Dime Store. She was the oldest living member of Epworth United Methodist Church of Bluffton.
She also belongs to the G.E. Elex Club, Honorettes, Quarter Century Club, and the United Methodist Women.
She graduated from Petroleum High School in 1937. Bessie very much enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her church family. She also enjoyed bowling.
She was born December 8, 1918 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to William Allen and Catherine Luella (Adams) Harford. Her first marriage was to Chester C. Penrod. She later married Paul K. Nicholson. Both of her husbands are deceased.
Survivors are a daughter Barbara Irwin (husband: Joe) of Bluffton, two sons, Clyde Penrod (wife: Lydia) of Hitchcoth, Texas and Ralph Penrod (wife: Ramona) of Springfield, Ohio. She leaves behind a loving, large number of Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, and Great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her one and only brother, Earl Harford.
Calling hours are 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler funeral home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Funeral service is 1 P.M. on Saturday at Epworth United Methodist Church with Pastor Dick Frederick officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton.
