Obituary:
Florence E. Graden, 102, of Berne, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Swiss Village Retirement Community.Mrs. Graden was born in Wells County on Aug. 30, 1907 to Charles C. and Lydia M. (Archbold) Crowl. She married Fred A. Graden in Wabash on Jan. 17, 1928; he preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1983. Florence was a lifelong resident of Wells County and a member of the first graduating class from the new Ossian High School in 1926. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, holding various offices and serving on several boards of the church. She was one of the first women to serve as Elders in the Bluffton Presbyterian Church. She retired as a bookkeeper at Graden Service Station, and enjoyed bowling. She was on a team that went to the state finals. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Jean (Richard) Marshall of Bluffton; two grandchildren, Patrick (Laurie) Marshall of Fort Wayne and Kay (Rod) Stine of Huntington; and five great-grandchildren, Stefanie Stine, Sarah Stine, Nicole Keller, Kiersten Marshall and Tessa Marshall. Mrs. Graden was also preceded in death by one infant brother, Harry Crowl. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Madsen officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, in Bluffton.
