| Vernon E. Stone, 65, Poneto, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at the Meadowvale Health and Rehab Center in Bluffton.
Mr. Stone had been employed at the Norris Feed Mill and at Alliance Winding. He was a member of the Poneto Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Poneto Lions Club, and a member of American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton. He attended the Poneto United Methodist Church.
A 1963 graduate of Bluffton High School, he was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1964-68.
Mr. Stone was born April 18, 1944, at Portland, to Vernon E. Stone and Mary E. Sutton Stone. He married Becky Bulger Feb. 21, 1965, in Bluffton; his wife survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife Becky, are a son, Vernon E. (Lynn) Stone of Erin, Tenn.; a daughter, Jennifer (Russell) Mounsey of Keystone; five grandchildren, Kayla Mounsey, Krista Mounsey, Kara Mounsey, and Zach Mounsey, all of Keystone, and Daniel Stone of Erin, Tenn.; and four sisters, Bonnie (Charles) Clack of Clarksville, Tenn., Alice Ann (John) Van Wagner of Poneto, Cathleen (Keith) Moser of Huntington, and Faith (Rick) Sprong of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dawn Burchard and Elizabeth Bennett, and a brother, David T. Stone.
Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney, and Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Nevil of Poneto United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Stahl Cemetery, where military honors will be performed by members of American Legion Post 111 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice and Palliative Care or to the Wells County Alzheimer’s Support Group.
