Obituary:
Marlin Allen Knowles, Sr., 63, Poneto, died unexpectedly at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at his home. Born in Montgomery, Ala. on Dec. 8, 1946 to Marion T. and Lena (Betts) Knowles, he married Rita Smith on June 3, 1966 in Muskegon, Mich.; she survives. A Wells County resident for 50 years, he was a 1964 graduate of Bluffton High School and attended Purdue University. Mr. Knowles worked for 16 years as a project manager for International Harvester, and then 27 years in the engineering field for Elkhart Products Corporation in Geneva. He was an avid gardener, an outdoorsman and was always ready to pick up a game of pitch-and-catch. Survivors in addition to his wife include his mother of Bluffton; two daughters, Laura Lacey Knowles of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Sara D. Muller of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.; two sons, Marlin A. “Mak” Knowles, Jr. of Arcadia and Jordan T. Knowles of Washington D.C.; two brothers, Lon Knowles of Lake McClish, Hudson and Mitchel Knowles of Bluffton; one sister, LaNae E. Redding of Fort Wayne; and two grandchildren, Emma Knowles and Price Knowles. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, “M.T.” Marion Thomas Knowles, Jr. and Marlo Kent Knowles. Per his request, there will be no funeral service. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. The body will be cremated.
