Robert E. Meeks, Sr., 86, of Bluffton, died at 1:28 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born January 6, 1923 in Wells County, to Marion Meeks and Edna (Gilbert) Meeks.
Mr. Meeks graduated from Bluffton High School, was a member of the basketball team and was active in 4-H.He was a life-long resident of Wells County where he farmed and operated a local trucking business. He was a member of Bluffton Moose Lodge #242 where he was a Past-Governor. Mr. Meeks was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post # 111.
Surviving relatives include one son, Robert E. “Buster” Meeks, Jr. (wife: Michele) of Indianapolis, Indiana; one daughter, Barbara Marie Coyle (husband: Brian) of Orlando, Florida; two brothers, John Meeks of Markle, Indiana, and Wayne Meeks of Bluffton, Indiana; two sisters, Betty Meeks of Bluffton, Indiana and Evelyn Colby (husband: Carl) of Elnora, California and two grandchildren. Mr. Meeks was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Meeks, Wendell Meeks and William Meeks and one sister, Ruth Neff.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home with Pastor Cindy Osgood officiating. Calling hours will be from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the St. Paul Cemetery in Wells County where Military funeral rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #111 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
